Roster of events scheduled for 2012 Homecoming weekend

Ewing, NJ ? The campus at The?College of New Jersey will be buzzing with?legendary athletes, a field dedication,?and New Jersey Athletic Conference battles on Friday, October 19 and Saturday, October 20.

The weekend begins on Friday night in Brower Student Center 202 as six individuals and two teams will be inducted into?TCNJ's Athletic Alumni Hall of Fame. The class of 2012 includes Carl Jones '87 (football), Marie Whalen '90 (field hockey/lacrosse), Howard Forman '91 (baseball), and Robin Selbst '96 (field hockey/softball/lacrosse). The veterans committee announced their selections of Steve Libro '65 (football) and Fred Surgent '64 (gymnastics, soccer, track and field), who will also enter as individuals.

The 1985 national champion women's lacrosse team and the 1963 football team will be enshrined as this year's teams of distinction. They will join the festivities beginning at 6 p.m.

The Office of Alumni Affairs will also host a brunch in Loser Hall?in honor of?former football coach Bob Salois. Coach Salois?and his former players and friends are welcome to attend the brunch on Saturday?from?10 a.m to 12 p.m.

On Saturday morning,?Lions' Park will be officially named Dr.?June Walker Field in an event held at the softball complex. The festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with the annual alumni game.?That will be followed by the dedication ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Master of?Ceremonies Pete Manetas,?interim Vice President of?College Advancement, will welcome a large contingency?of alums?who worked extremely hard to see this day come to fruition. He will be joined by?TCNJ President Dr. R. Barbara Gitenstein, Director of Athletics and Recreation John Castaldo, softball head coach Sally Miller, and softball alumnus?Anne DeGennaro '83 and Robin Payne '83, who will all share words during the ceremony.

The men's soccer team will face off against New Jersey City University at 11 a.m. in?TCNJ's Soccer Complex. Led by seniors Kevin Shaw and Vince McEnroe, the Lions will continue their charge towards an NJAC playoff berth in?this critical conference match-up.

At 2 p.m.,?senior Derick Hughes?and company will kick things off in Lions' Stadium as TCNJ football will battle NJAC foe Kean University in the marquee match-up of the day.? The Lions will to avenge a 7-6 defeat at the hands of the Cougars last season.
